Short version

Use Tactiq when you want one YouTube video's transcript right now, with no account, and a plain TXT file is enough. Its real product is live meeting notes for Google Meet, Zoom and Teams. Use BulkTranscripts when the job is more than a handful of videos, when you need Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV or JSON, when you want one combined file for NotebookLM or ChatGPT, or when an agent needs YouTube over an API or MCP.

What Tactiq’s YouTube transcript generator does

It is a single page at tactiq.io/tools/youtube-transcript. You paste a video URL, the transcript appears with timestamps, and you can scroll it, copy it, or download a .txt file. Tactiq’s own copy says it works “without entering your email” and that the generator “is available for free”. There is no playlist or channel option, no format choice, and no API. The Chrome extension people associate with Tactiq is for meetings, not YouTube.

Where Tactiq is the better fit

If you are already a Tactiq meeting-notes user, its YouTube page is a convenient extra. For a one-off video where a .txt is all you need, it is as quick as anything else and asks for nothing. And if your actual problem is transcribing Google Meet, Zoom or Teams calls, Tactiq is the relevant product and BulkTranscripts is not.

Where BulkTranscripts is the better fit

The moment the job is a course playlist, a podcast back-catalogue, or a competitor’s channel, one-at-a-time stops working. BulkTranscripts takes the channel or playlist URL, pulls up to 1,000 transcripts in one job with live progress, and exports them as separate files or one combined AI-ready document. Formats include TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, CSV and JSON. The same engine is available as a REST API and a hosted MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can fetch transcripts directly. TikTok videos work too.

Cost

For single videos both are free. BulkTranscripts gives 30 free transcripts to start and then sells one-time packs from $4.99 for 200; credits never expire and re-reading anything in your library is free. Tactiq’s paid plans, from $8 per user per month on annual billing, buy meeting transcription and AI credits, not more YouTube capacity. Figures are from tactiq.io on 2026-09-18.

Questions

Is Tactiq’s YouTube transcript generator free?

Yes. Tactiq’s page says the YouTube transcript generator is free and does not ask for an email. It processes one video at a time and downloads TXT.

Can Tactiq transcribe a whole playlist or channel?

Not through the YouTube tool. It takes one video URL per run. BulkTranscripts handles a channel or playlist of up to 1,000 videos in one job.

Does either tool use AI transcription?

Both start from YouTube’s caption tracks. BulkTranscripts prefers creator-uploaded captions over auto-generated ones when both exist and cleans the text into paragraphs.

Is BulkTranscripts affiliated with Tactiq?

No. Tactiq is a trademark of its owner. This page compares public features and prices as published on tactiq.io on the date shown.
