Reading is faster than watching

Most people read three to four times faster than people speak. A 45-minute video is roughly 7,000 words — ten minutes of reading, and you can skim, search, and jump in a way video does not allow.

What 'readable' actually means here

YouTube captions arrive as short overlapping fragments, often repeating each line as it scrolls. Those duplicates are removed and the fragments are regrouped into paragraphs using the natural pauses in speech, so the result reads as continuous prose rather than a wall of subtitle lines.

Accessibility and preference

Text works with screen readers, translation tools, and reading-assist software. It also suits anyone who simply retains written information better, or who cannot play audio where they are.

Search across everything at once

Once a channel is text, you can search every word anyone said across the whole archive — including inside the transcripts, not just titles — which no video interface lets you do.

Questions

Does this transcribe the audio itself?

No — it uses the captions YouTube already has, which is why it is fast and free. Videos with no captions at all cannot be converted.

How accurate is the text?

Creator-written captions are near-perfect and are always preferred when present. Auto-generated captions are good but imperfect with names, jargon, and accents. The source is labelled on every transcript so you know which you got.

Can I convert to Word or PDF?

Export Markdown or TXT and convert with any editor — both open cleanly in Word, Google Docs, and Pages.
